I consider myself something of a breakfast enthusiast; growing up in England it’s hard not to be. I was relieved to discover that the South Africans take it just as seriously, although they incorporate an element of choice that the English lack!
If you’re staying up in the City Bowl or you just fancy a breakfast with a view head to Derry Street in Vredehoek to the Side Walk Café and grab a ‘Breakfast Stack’ for 60 Rand. Bacon, egg, tomato, mushrooms, hash brown and, rare to see in a Cape Town breakfast, a pork sausage. Now see if you can put that stack in your mouth! No? That’s okay, there’s a knife and fork if you need!
If the weather’s nice make sure to sit outside for the views.
Not to say that there’s no view from inside.
There’s a fully stocked bar with Castle Lite on draught.
And if it’s really cold you can warm yourself by the fire, or with a few strong cocktails!
